Please join Kate White and John Wilks in a professional inservice workshop on working with mothers and babies.
The aim of this course is to give healthcare professionals and manual therapists the practical skills needed to work hands-on with babies and their parents, in addition to providing an understanding of prenatal and postnatal influences on babies’ behaviour and functioning. This course is for anyone wanting to work with babies, whether that is lactation consultants, doulas, midwives, osteopaths, chiropractors, manual therapists, early life educators, psychiatrists, psychologists etc. It is a very practical course offering skills enabling practical support for mums, babies and dads. These skills are based around light-touch therapies – simple craniosacral holds and gentle Bowen and fascia-based work. No prior skill in these areas is needed.

- Centering exercises for therapists – focusing on the heart, embodiment, the importance of being present and creating a safe space.
- Skills for re-establishing contact between mum, baby and partner/extended family.
- Trust & safety in the therapeutic setting – negotiating touch
- The basic principles behind establishing therapeutic touch. Practical set-up for working with mum, partner and baby
- The basic principles behind Craniosacral therapy (with practical work centering on mum and baby’s heart area)
- The basic principles behind Bowen/Fascial work. An understanding and practice of Bowen-type moves and what they are doing
- Practical around basic Fascial/Bowen work for mum and baby

About John Wilks:
Bowen Technique & Craniosacral Therapy Director: Our Birth Journey After studying music at Oxford, John developed a strong interest in body-orientated psychotherapy and meditation. He has been practising the Bowen Technique and Craniosacral Therapy full time since 1995. He is a former chairman of the Bowen Association of the UK, the Craniosacral Therapy Association of the UK and the Cranial Forum, the lead body established to oversee the implementation of national standards of practice for the profession in the UK. He is a former examiner for the University of Oxford examinations board and is advisor on education and training for the Bowen Forum under the Prince of Wales’ Foundation for Integrated Health. John was accredited by the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia to teach the Bowen Technique in 1999 and has since then, taught in many countries throughout the world including Denmark, Norway, Israel, USA, Australia, Kuwait, El Salvador, Sweden, Ireland, Austria and Germany. He was awarded a lifetime membership of the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia in 2004. He also lectures complementary practitioners on pregnancy and childbirth all over the world. He is the author of four books on complementary therapies and developed a specialised Craniosacral training course for midwives which was the first of its kind to be accredited by the Royal College of Midwives. ,About Kate White:
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist, Massage Therapist, Instructor: Healing Early Trauma, Trained in Prenatal, Perinatal, Birth and Attachment Therapies. Kate White is an award-winning educator, craniosacral and massage therapist, prenatal and early childhood educator. All her therapeutic work and classes arise out of her work as a somatic therapist, where she is passionate about the brain and mind-body medicine. She is a mother of two children, holds a BA and MA in Communication, and is a Registered Craniosacral Therapist in the Biodynamic Craniosacral method. Her work combines somatic therapy with brain development to help give families with babies and small children the best possible start. Her work is a translation of some of the research on how parents are with their children affects neural pathways and perception. She has a comprehensive education including anatomy, physiology, neuroscience, embryology, interpersonal neurobiology, infant massage, prenatal massage and autonomic nervous system function of the mother-baby dyad. Her list of trainings equals thousands of hours and practice. She is Board certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). She is certified in adult and infant CPR, is Founding Director of Education for the APPPAH (Association for Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health, 2013-2019), and currently directs her own programs through the Center for Prenatal and Perinatal Programs. |
