This course is designed to provide both an understanding of the Bowen Technique and the practical hands-on skills that enable participants to work safely and effectively with mothers and babies in a clinical setting.

 

The Bowen Technique is a powerful but gentle approach to addressing a wide variety of symptoms and conditions that mothers and babies frequently present with, both prenatally and postnatally.  The course will teach practical skills to address the following:

 

  • Understanding and application of Bowen work to mums and babies
  • The importance of a safe environment, empathy and eye contact when working with babies
  • Negotiation of touch and space when working with babies
  • Womb health and Posture including optimal fetal positioning during pregnancy
  • The Psoas in the mother and the baby and how to work with it
  • Working with Posterior babies
  • The use of forceps and suction, how that impacts the baby and how to work with the imprints
  • Planned and emergency Caesareans – how to work with mother and baby
  • Babies who have been born ‘normally’ but are exhibiting symptoms such as colic, restlessness etc
  • A look at the baby’s cranium - its differences to an adult and areas that might need addressing
  • The role of the umbilicus prenatally and at birth – its ramifications and how to work with umbilical shock
  • Looking at the ramifications of induced deliveries
  • Working with Mums after birth (including working with scar tissue after Caesareans)

Crossings is conveniently located three blocks from the Metro Red Line. There is public garage parking and hotels and restaurants within walking distance.

Dates: April 4 - 7, 2024

Times: 9:30 am to 6 pm each day, with 1.5 hours for lunch

Fees and Registration: The workshop fee is $725 for 4 days, $650 if paid 1 month in advance (by March 4). 
​Travel and Lodging:

By Car: Silver Spring, MD is just north of Washington, DC.
By Train: Amtrak travels in to Washington, DC via Union Station. You can take the Metro from there, the Redline to Silver Spring. 
By Plane: The area is served by three different airports: Ronald Reagan International, Dulles International and Baltimore Washington International airport. You can travel to Silver Spring metro stop via the metro service easily.
Lodging: There are many hotels and airbnb near the venue. The Hotel Silver Spring and DoubleTree by Hilton are within walking distance. 
Food: There many local restaurants and a Whole Foods and other grocery stores nearby.
